Lesson Plan: 

Letter Vv

Weeks 22 and 23 Phonics Objective: Students will learn the letter Vv, its sound, and begin to write the letter Vv. Students will be able to identify the letter Vv in words that we explore. Students will blend the letter Vv with short vowel sounds.

Biblical Integration: Students will learn letters and sounds in order to decode words and then be able to read and understand the Bible for themselves.

Students will begin to recognize different letter sounds and words in our Memory Verses.

Essential Question: Can students recognize, write and hear the Vv sound in words?

-Review the Vv's in our Memory Verse, 1 Corinthians 13:4.  Have your child say Love and envy.  Do they hear the sound?

-Create some riddles where the answer is a word that begins with a Vv.  Such as '"I'm thinking of a something that begins with a Vv sound and is someone who takes care of animals.  Make up silly songs or rhymes that has a beginning Vv sound, such as Vaby Vark (Baby Shark) or Vack and Vill (Jack and Jill).

-Do letter formation and phonics identification worksheets for the letter Vv.  Here are two worksheets that I didn't send home: Vv worksheets.

Action Words

Phonics Objective: Students will begin to understand what an action word is, a verb. Students will be pick out action words in a sentence. Students will dictate and act out sentences using action words.

Biblical Integration: Students will be able to identify Jesus through his actions. What are some action words we can use to describe Jesus?

Essential Question: Can you find the Action Word (verb) in sentences (don't expect them to recognize linking verbs (was, is, am, etc.).

-Introduce Action Words by write different sentences and asking them what the subject is doing (What is mom doing in the sentence "Mom can jump.")

-Write down actions on cards, such as Jumping rope, Brushing your teeth, Hitting a golf ball, etc.  Play Charadeswith the cards and take turns acting out an action word(verb).  Emphasize the Action Words during the game.

-Have them think of an action word they like to do and have them draw a picture of themselves doing it and write the word, so they can copy it.

-What are Actions that Jesus did in the Bible and still does today?
